Aurora, CO (February 2, 2026) – A deadly crash near Nome Park left one man dead and a one-year-old child seriously injured, according to authorities in Aurora.

The collision occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, at the intersection of East 13th Avenue and North Peoria Street. Investigators said two vehicles collided.

The driver of one vehicle suffered critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. A one-year-old baby who was also in that vehicle was transported to the hospital and remains in serious condition. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of the other vehicle fled on foot following the crash. Officers later located and detained a suspect nearby after an extensive search of the area. Investigators said the suspect vehicle was a Chevrolet Trailblazer, which collided with a Volvo in the intersection.

The incident remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing witness statements and available evidence.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and also wish the injured child a rapid recovery during this challenging time.

What Legal Options Are Available After a Fatal Crash in Aurora?

After a crash that results in the loss of life, families often have legal options to help address the financial and personal impact of the incident. In cases involving a fatality, surviving family members may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim, which is typically intended to address losses such as funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the emotional impact of losing a loved one.

When a child is injured, a separate personal injury claim may also be considered to account for medical care, long-term treatment needs, and future impacts on the child’s health and development.

Crashes involving allegations of reckless driving or fleeing the scene often involve multiple layers of investigation. Police reports, traffic camera footage, witness statements, and vehicle data can all play a role in determining how the collision occurred and who may be legally responsible.

While criminal charges are handled by the state, civil claims are a separate process and focus on compensating victims and families for their losses.

Insurance considerations are another key part of the process. Claims may involve the at-fault driver’s auto insurance, as well as potential uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage if limits are insufficient. In cases involving severe injuries to a child, insurers often closely examine medical documentation, projected future care costs, and expert evaluations.

Families are often navigating grief, medical decisions, and financial uncertainty all at once. Speaking with a personal injury or wrongful death attorney can help them understand how claims are typically handled, what deadlines may apply, and what types of compensation are commonly pursued in similar situations.

An attorney can also communicate with insurance companies on the family’s behalf and help explain complex legal processes in clear terms.
