Does Medical Payments Coverage Help With Bills After an Accident in Aurora, CO?

Yes, it can. Medical payments coverage, typically called MedPay, is optional auto insurance that can pay reasonable medical bills for the policyholder and passengers, no matter who was at fault, up to the policy limit. Colorado insurers must offer at least $5,000 in coverage, but drivers may decline it in writing.

MedPay bills are usually submitted to the policyholder’s own insurer, and limits and exclusions vary, so the declarations page and policy wording matter. Keeping bills, medical records, and explanation-of-benefits statements together can speed up a claim and make it easier to see what has been paid.

In addition, MedPay can serve as a valuable bridge while waiting for liability determinations or health insurance processing, ensuring that immediate medical costs do not create financial strain. It often covers ambulance fees, hospital visits, diagnostic tests, and even dental care related to an accident.

Because coverage is relatively inexpensive, many drivers choose it for peace of mind, knowing that unexpected injuries can be addressed quickly without lengthy disputes over fault or responsibility.

It can be difficult to navigate this alone, which is why many drivers turn to a car accident lawyer to help them review which coverages apply, including claims against another driver and the injured person’s own policy, and explain how deadlines work.
